- Rejected the "Palladian style" that was introduced by Indigo Jones

- Revival of interest in arts of Greece and Rome

- Ceilings- Delicate with octagons, fans, and ellipses with roman stucco decorations
- Painted surfaces and designs, satinwood, extreme formal style, symmetry, and complete unity to the total composition were all characteristics of Adam's design
- Floors were made of Polished oak and carpets that had patterns were made to complement the design of the ceiling
- Fireplaces were not a focal point
- Mirrors were an important part of this time period. There were oval shapes in a flat-reeded molding. They were used as a main part of the arrangement.

- He brought Neoclassic style to the masses
